Terms
The agreement between you and the people who run Uncover when you use Uncover. Written to be read. Last updated 31 October 2026.
What Uncover is, and isn’t
Uncover reads insurance documents you give it and explains what they say. It is not an insurer, a broker or a financial adviser, it doesn’t sell insurance, and nothing it says is a recommendation about any financial product.
Uncover reads carefully and shows where each fact came from, but it can misread a document, and it only knows what you’ve given it. Your insurer holds the full policy and decides every claim. Before you rely on something that matters — whether to claim, cancel or change cover — check it with your insurer, or a licensed adviser for advice about your situation.
Your account
Only add documents you’re entitled to hold — your own policies, or ones you manage for your household. You’re responsible for keeping access to your email secure, since that’s how you sign in. How Uncover handles what you add is on the privacy page.
Free, Plus and Family
Uncover Free is free, with as many policies as you like and 3 Ask Uncover questions a month. Uncover Plus adds Renewal Watch — an email before each of your policies renews, and what changed when it does — 50 questions a month, and sharing your cover with one other person. Uncover Family is Plus for up to 5 people, plus up to 2 other households you look after, each with Plus of its own.
Every new account starts with 30 days of Plus, free, with no card taken. When it ends your account carries on as the free plan unless you choose to pay; nothing you’ve added is removed.
Plus costs $79 NZD a year and Family $119 NZD a year, each charged once a year in advance. Founding members pay $39 (Plus) or $79 (Family) for their first year, then the full price after that. The price you’ll pay is shown before you pay it.
Plus and Family renew automatically every year on the date you first subscribed, at the price at the time, until you cancel. If the price is going to change, you’ll be told by email at least 30 days before a renewal at the new price.
Payments are processed by Stripe. Uncover never sees or stores your card details.
Sharing your cover
On Plus or Family you can invite people into your household. They see the same policies, documents and claims as you; what each person asks Ask Uncover stays their own. You set up the Uncover, so you pay for it, invite and remove people, and deleting your account deletes it for everyone in it. Anyone you invite can leave whenever they like. Only invite people you’d be comfortable seeing your insurance.
Give a month, get a month
A friend who joins through your link gets 60 days of Plus instead of 30. Once they add their first real policy, you get a month: a credit worth a month of your plan off your next bill if you pay, or another month of Plus if you don’t. Up to 6 a year. A reward has no cash value. Links used to sign up yourself, or accounts made to collect rewards, don’t count, and Uncover can withdraw rewards earned that way.
Connecting an adviser
If a licensed financial adviser gives you a link, you can connect your account to them and choose which kinds of cover they can see. They can’t see your questions to Ask Uncover, your claims or your documents. You can change what they see or disconnect at any time, from Profile. While you’re connected, their plan may include Plus for you; if it stops, your Uncover carries on as your own plan or the free one.
Any advice they give you is theirs, under their own licence and their own terms. Uncover doesn’t choose, recommend or vouch for an adviser beyond checking their number on the Financial Service Providers Register.
If you’re an adviser
Uncover for Advisers is for financial advisers on the Financial Service Providers Register, and Uncover checks your registration before your link connects anybody. It costs $199 NZD a month, billed monthly in advance until you cancel from your adviser dashboard, and includes Plus for up to 100 connected clients while it’s active.
You may only use what a client shares with you to advise that client, and only while they’re connected. You’re responsible for your own advice and your own obligations under the Financial Markets Conduct Act 2013 and the Privacy Act 2020. Uncover doesn’t refer clients to you, and nothing on Uncover is advice from Uncover.
Cancelling
Cancel any time from Profile → Manage billing. Your plan keeps working until the end of the period you’ve paid for, then your account moves to the free plan. Nothing in it is removed: everything you’ve added stays, and only the Plus extras stop.
Deleting your account cancels any subscription straight away, along with everything else in Uncover.
Refunds
If you’re not happy, email harshae.raniga@gmail.com within 14 days of any payment — your first or a renewal — and you’ll get that payment back in full. No reasons needed. After 14 days payments aren’t refunded, but you can cancel so the next one never happens.
None of this limits your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or the Fair Trading Act 1986.
If something goes wrong
Uncover is provided with reasonable care and skill. To the extent the law allows, Uncover isn’t liable for decisions made on the basis of what it showed you, or for loss arising from a document it misread, and its total liability to you is limited to what you paid Uncover in the 12 months before the problem arose. Nothing here excludes a guarantee or right that the law says can’t be excluded.
Uncover can suspend an account that’s used to upload material the account holder has no right to, or to interfere with the service. If that ever happens to a paid account, the unused part of the year is refunded.
Changes, and the law that applies
If these terms change in a way that matters, you’ll be told by email at least 30 days before. They’re governed by New Zealand law.
